On July 10, 1955 he married Jacquelyn W. March, upon discharge from the Navy.  She predeceased him in 1992.

John was an active member of his community.  He served on various boards in the town of Denmark.  He was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Bridgton where he served as usher and taught Sunday school with his wife.  He later joined Casco Village Church where he served in several different capacities.
He enjoyed eating out, reading, being outdoors, tinkering on old tractors, and most all, his family.
John is survived by his brother, Robert M. Schrader of Port St. Lucie, FL.; his three children, March Schrader of Hartford, CT., April Frank of Harrison and Lyn Richardson of Naples; one granddaughter, four grandsons, one great-grandson, and a longtime companion, Carolyn S. Marr.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Casco Village Church, 942 Meadow Road, Casco.  Interment will be at a later date at the Adams Ponds Cemetery, Bridgton.
